Stop trying to do it all!
Tired. Exhausted. Overworked. Unproductive.
Are any of these words ringing a bell right now?
Yes – it’s true that hard work absolutely pays off, but at what cost?
And, is it an unnecessary cost, sometimes?
We often get programmed into doing the same things over and over again because of a number of things:
- Fear
- Comfort
- Anxiety
- Monetary Gain
But, if you (just for a moment) put those things aside, could you give yourself permission to embrace something different so that you could get off of the hamster wheel of feeling like you need to do everything, all the time – even if you don’t enjoy it (anymore).
Leadership Tip: You can always count on change. Change is constant. Change is inevitable and change is necessary. On this growth journey of yours, recognize that you have the ability to ride change by being aware enough to know that it will happen or let it drag you along. Instead of letting change and difference take you COMPLETELY by surprise, acquire skills to expect it and to be ready for it.
So, how might you do this?
How might you embrace and honestly make this statement, “ I do not need to do it all.”
- Ask yourself, “Do I Like To See Other People Win?”
If the answer is yes, that’s great news, because one of the ways that you stop doing it all yourself is to empower other people to do the things that they love. I know that this statement seems a lot more simple than what it is, but think about it.
When was the last time that you hoarded all the work and all the to-do’s and all the tasks so that you could do it “your” way? And, while you may be used to “your ” way, “your” way isn’t’ the only way, right?
And most importantly, if you’re hoarding all the to-do’s then, aren’t you blocking the opportunity for other people to learn, grow and elevate (and win)?
- What Got You Here Won’t Get You There
You may in fact be a hard worker, but what is it that you really want to do with your life, NEXT? I ask this because what got you here to where you are today may not be what you need to get you to your next level! I’ve recently finished up this book called, The 12 Week Year. (highly recommended)
While I have had a way of operating for many years, in order for me to advance to levels that I hadn’t before, it’s necessary for me (and you) to think and operate a little differently because, what got us here won’t get us there.
Speaking of, “what got me here”, there was a time (many years ago) that I did my own bookkeeping and accounting and after years of begrudgingly doing that, I decided that this process just wasn’t serving me anymore and that I didn’t HAVE to do it.
So, I hired professionals.

- There’s More To Life Than Work
A much younger Jacqueline would probably cringe at writing this, because honestly, I like working. I can’t label myself as a workaholic, but I happened to have picked a career that I greatly enjoy, therefore it’s easy to work on it. But, honestly, there are other things that I enjoy as well – a lot.
And, once I embraced the fact that those things that I enjoy deserve and want my attention too, I was able to release some of the other things. And, if there are things that still need to get done, but I in fact can’t do them all (because, other things are also deserving of my time), there either leaves an opportunity for someone else or me accepting the fact that maybe, (just maybe) this thing doesn’t need to REALLY get done.
For the super do-ers, many of these points are hard to digest. (they have been for me in the past), but over time, accepting the fact that I don’t necessarily have to do it all has been rewarding, freeing and actually an opportunity for me to elevate in ways that I hadn’t before. (and maybe it can be for you as well)
